Call for Papers -- International
Journal of Conflict and Violence
International Journal of Conflict and Violence.
(www.ijcv.org) The International Journal of Conflict and Violence (IJCV)
is a periodical for scientific exchange and public dissemination of the
latest academic research on conflict and violence. The subjects on which
the IJCV concentrates have always been the focus of interest in many
different areas of academic life. Consequently, our journal encompasses
contributions from a wide range of disciplines including sociology,
political science, education, social psychology, criminology, ethnology,
history, political philosophy, urban studies, and the study of religions.
The IJCV is open-access. All the articles are
available to anyone on the internet, free of charge and without
restriction. This is a response to the developments of recent years, where
dissemination of knowledge has undergone rapid change that has led
conventional printed media to become an obstacle to communication within
(and beyond) the scientific community. A printed journal requires a great
deal of time to prepare, thus causing delays, consumes scarce financial
and human resources, and restricts access to subscribers only. An
open-access web-based electronic publication is the up-to-date response to
the need for swift, open, and free dissemination of knowledge as a common
good.
This media shift notwithstanding, IJCV will naturally
exercise quality control through peer reviews by international experts in
the field using the established criteria. Reviewers assess the relevance,
contribution to knowledge, methodological adequacy, clarity of
presentation, and validity of the conclusions of submitted manuscripts.
The IJCV is edited by Wilhelm Heitmeyer (University
of Bielefeld), Douglas S. Massey (Princeton University), Steven Messner
(University of Albany, NY), James Sidanius (Harvard University), and
Michel Wieviorka (École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris).
The IJCV is published twice a year, in spring and in
fall. Each issue will focus on one specific topic while also including
articles on other issues.
Published and planned topics are:
Spring 2007: Discrimination
Fall 2007: Terrorism
Spring 2008: Youth and Violence
Fall 2008: Anomie/Anomia and Violence

Email Discussion!
The ASA has created new listservs for each section.
There are now two new listservs for our section, one for disseminating
information to section members and one for discussion among section
members. The ASA has populated the lists from membership data, so you may
already be receiving information on the announcement list. The participate
in discussions on the other list, you must subscribe to the list.
Announcement List:
ASA provides each section with an Announcement List for the purpose of
disseminating announcements and other important and timely information to
section members. Messages are routed via
peace_war-announce@listserv.asanet.org
If you want to be excluded from the list, such requests should be
addressed to
infoservice@asanet.org and a marker will be placed on your record so
that your e-mail address will be excluded when the distribution list is
refreshed. The distribution list is now populated with all 1999 members of
each section. ASA will refresh the distribution list on a bi-monthly basis
or as needed.
Discussion List:
ASA provides each section with an Open Discussion List to be used as a
forum for intellectual exchange on topics appropriate for the discipline
and profession. This discussion list, at
peace_war@listserv.asanet.org, unlike the section
announcement list, is not "prepopulated" with e-mail addresses of section
members. Section members who are interested in participating in the
discussion list will need to subscribe to the listserv by using the
instructions below.
Subscribing to the list:
Each section will encourage its members to subscribe to the open
discussion list by using the following steps:
1. In the address field, type in
majordomo@listserv.asanet.org ; leave
the subject field blank.
2. In the text area or body of the message, type in subscribe
peace_war.After issuing the subscribe
command in the body of the message, the remainder of the body must be
blank. OR, type 2 hyphens (--) on the next line after the subscribe
command to have the listserver ignore other text.
3. Send the subscription message.
4. You will receive an e-mail confirmation from majordomo@listserv.asanet.org
informing you that the request was received. You will be given an
authorization key and instructions to respond back to majordomo. This step
is to prevent users from subscribing other users without the latter's
knowledge. Once this confirmation is sent back to majordomo, you will
receive two messages from majordomo welcoming you to the subscribed list.
Unsubscribing from the list:
Section members can unsubscribe their list participation at any time
by sending a message to
majordomo@listserv.asanet.org and type the following command in the
body of the text: unsubsribe peace_war
